Frans PENNINGS, Prof. Dr.

After having obtained his Master's degree in Dutch language and literature (Modern Linguistics), Frans Pennings started to study law, in which he graduated in 1985. In 1990 he obtained his doctor's degree at Utrecht University . Subsequently he became assistant professor, associate professor and professor at Tilburg University (until 1 July 2011). In 2003 he was appointed professor in European and comparative social security law at Utrecht University, which appointment was replaced by his appointment as professor in labour law and social security law in 2008. He is also Visiting Professor International Labour Law and social security law at the University of Gothenburg and currently he is the president of the department of International and European Law at Utrecht University (Law Faculty). Together with prof. dr. Janneke Plantenga, he is leader of the research programme regarding life cycle and social security that is funded by Instituut Gak.
