Hakan YILMAZ, Prof. Dr.

Hakan Yılmaz is professor at the department of political science and international relations, Bogazici University, Istanbul. He's got his BA degree at the Economics Department of Bogazici University (1987). He received his M.A. (1991) and PhD (1996) degrees at the Political Science Department of Columbia University in New York City. He has two sets of interests, academic and artistic. Academically, he is interested in political ideologies and political culture in post-war Turkey; culture and identity dimensions of European integration and EU-Turkish relations; and external-internal linkages in the processes of democratization. He has conducted several research projects, among the others, on Euroskepticism and conservatism in Turkey; the knowledge and image of Turkey, as well as the level of support for Turkey's EU membership, in five EU member states (UK, Germany, France, Spain, Poland); the processes of othering and discrimination in Turkey. As far as his interest in arts is concerned, he is writing poetry and song lyrics and he is an active musician.
